More Big Changes for James

Maybe I should have thought about all the changes I was bringing on at one time, but James seems to have taken them all in stride and is doing great.

He has a sticker collection here- he gets a sticker for eating well (which we have to encourage sometimes) and for cleaning up his toys.

He has another new sticker chart for going potty. As you can see he's caught on quickly. I'd say he's just about 100% pee-pee trained. When he fills a chart he gets a treat (a few M&M's).

My problem is that he doesn't want to poop on the potty, so he holds it and eventually gets a stomach ache because he's constipated (sorry if that's too much information). I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to revert back to diapers, though he is wearing pull-ups some of the time. I try to encourage himwith an even better treat for doing #2 in the potty, I let him watch Mickey Mouse on the iPhone while he's sitting there, hoping it will distract him, but so far nothing. Tips?

The other big change for him is the introduction of this big boy bed! He loves it- was not at all sad about seeing me take apart his crib. He wants to show it off to everyone, loves to sit on it and read his books, or play with his toys. He's sleeping great, doesn't get up after I put him to bed and stays in his bed until we tell him it's okay to get up. Hopefully that won't change. :)

First of all - thanks for the email. Praying for you guys (and OU? Can you say yee-haw?! Can I especially pray for that one?)
Secondly, I can't believe I'm about to type about poop stuff in a public forum! It is TOTALLY normal for them to get the pee thing down and not wnat to poop. All of mine did that. I don't have any great little tips - I have always done what you are doing - bigger and better rewards!
BUT... my mom told me of this idea she heard at a conference (and let me say now it sounds gross and crazy). They said studies have shown if you can get them to poop and then take a picture of it and and hang it in the bathroom - all the while praising them for what they did - it helps. Something about taking pride in their "accomplishment."
I think it sounds strange though kinda makes sense. I do have a friend whose little one finally pooped and said "It looks like a butterfly!" so they started keeping a list in the bathroom of the things she thought her poo looked like. She was so excited by this little game that she was eager to go.
Oh well - don't know if that helps. he's doing great and I'm sure will have it in no time!!
